Where does Ubuntu store application files?

Hi, my name is Marc, and I'm new to Ubuntu (Linux in general as a matter of fact). I'm used to Windows so I'm a bit confused because Linux is very different. So, my first question on this forum is the following:
Where does Ubuntu store application files? I just can't seem to locate them. I think they are in a folder called lib, under another one called usr but I'm not sure. Can anybody help me?

Most likely /usr/bin.
