Where did the dock go?
 

The dock just vanished this morning, it was there when I checked my e-mail this morning at 8ish. Then my husband went to use the computer at like 9ish and the dock won't pop up at all. He restarted and still no dock, I just got home and still no dock we ended up getting the konsole program running so we just use command lines to get into everything, but that is kind of a pain.

How do I get my dock back?

I am running Kubuntu. This morning around 8 am or so I was on Firefox and Thunderbird checking e-mail and checking here for a reply the a printer question I asked last night. I got off the computer and got ready to leave when I left my husband sat down at the computer and it was sleeping so he woke it up and when he did he couldn't get the dock to come up. So he restarted the computer (he is still in windows mode where that is the best way to fix things he isn't used to kubuntu yet). Last night I had been trying to install printers but the dock worked this morning. It is almost like program that runs it got erased somehow.

Anyone have any idea? The dock is still MIA 3 days later, it is kind of a pain. My husband insists that he didn't change any settings and without me seeing exactly what happened to make the dock go away and not come back I can't fix it.

Has anyone ever seen this happen before?

Some others may call it a menu bar, I just call it a dock because I am used to mac's.

It must be hidden somewhere in your desktop. Check your desktop, especially the four corners. If you see something like an arrow, click it.

I don't know exactly. You could press Alt+F2, and type in "adept", in order to launch Adept software manager.
From there, try to re-install the package "kubuntu-desktop". I'm not sure whether this is what you need. All I'm saying is that re-installing that part of broken software might help (you might need to find the package that's broken, yourself). Using Adept might be a good starting point, at any rate.
