I had no idea what Linuxmint was so I tried your link and it didn't work. So I googled it and even Google's cache won't show it. Looks like it's been out for quite a while if Google can't even show a cached page for it. :twocents:

It's on Google cache. Just search on "Linux Mint"

The reason the site is down is

Because of downtimes and account suspensions by Servage.net, Linux Mint is looking at dedicating hosting. If you can help please ...

I searched again and the cache worked. I clicked on the screenshots link and it took me to the main site. Could've been the cached copy still.

It looks like Ubuntu but with a green theme.

It looks like this might be going on again. I haven't been able to get to the LinuxMint site for a couple of days, and mintUpdate on both my boxes (both running Daryna betas, although one is the XFCE CE) is at least minorly broken as a result.

Is anyone else seeing this same behavior? If do an nslookup on www.linuxmint.com, nslookup reports a SERVFAIL error.

I really like this distro, but stuff like this makes me a little squeamish...

I'm not getting to it unless I use Open DNS servers.

Down again

Down again from what I can tell. OpenDNS says:

Nameserver trace for linuxmint.com:

* Looking for who is responsible for root zone and followed a.root-servers.net.
* Looking for who is responsible for com and followed c.gtld-servers.net.
* Looking for who is responsible for linuxmint.com and followed ns3.servage.net.

Nameservers for linuxmint.com:

* ns1.servage.net returned (NORECORDS)
* ns2.servage.net returned (NORECORDS)
* ns3.servage.net returned (NORECORDS)
* ns4.servage.net returned (NORECORDS)

I got nada...

I love Linux Mint KDE, Im not to fond of the GNOME edition though.

Anyway, If you're looking to download it, try this:

The Mint website seems to be back up, hopefully will stay that way!
I wouldn't recommend that linuxmint.net website, it only has old (3.0 - "Cassandra") ISOs. Darnya's looking good, hopefully the RC will be out soon.
pb

p.s. to answer your comment about what Mint is, hrp2171, it's not just a "green themed" version of Ubuntu. They've made some very nice additions (e.g. MintUpdate), and of course added the codecs, plugins etc.

Nameserver error caused downtime for Linuxmint

As stated in the forum
linuxmint.com was unreachable during Saturday and part of Friday and Sunday. This seems to have something to do with nameservers and it also seems that it affected different parts of the world at different times. The server itself worked fine the whole time.
Linuxmint.de (with download pages), the IRC channel and the torrent tracker were not affected.
We don't know why we're back no more than why we disappeared, more than that is seems to be a nameserver problem.
Investigation continues...

This confirms what some have already found. We are however on our own server maintained in Germany by a member of the community.
This is not the case for nameservers of course.
We will definitely do something about the situation and we have planned to change registrar. That will take some time however due to contractual issues

Down again...

Looks like the site is down again. The IRC channel is up, so perhaps there will be updates there:

Server: irc.spotchat.org
Channel: #linuxmint.com

We're working on it

We don't really know what happened, but the Apache server will not start so the result is no site up and running.
Xchat is a source of information
