@pan64: Thanks for your latest advice. I seem to forget that some of what works in stdout also improves how scripts may run, and I'm almost an "addicted" punctuation-mark user in terminal. I guess I've just been away from this too long, and have yet to find my way back to where I was when I had all the knowledge (my word for it is "chops") I did two years ago.
