Hi,

I'm still fairly new in linux in general and Ubuntu in particular.

I've managed to install many programs with Synaptic from the repositories (or is that suppositories? ;-P ) and they've worked out fine.

I did, however, want to install the latest version of Amaya website editor. I downloaded the deb package from their website, choosing to run it the default GDebi installer instead of "save to". It said that it was installed but there were no menu icons installed.

Installations have always confused this noob, coming from the world of "Program Files".

Can anyone give a basic run-down (or point me to one) as to where apps get intalled to?

Also, how do I put a new menu icon in Gnome's Application drop-down menu for unsupported apps that GDebi installs?

Hi crgrove,

All the installed programs gets installed in /usr/bin or /usr/sbin. I believe the editor is installed in /usr/bin. If it is you simply link it eg (ln /usr/bin/<prog name> /home/<home folder>/Desktop/<program name>)

There is also a menu editor (I forgot the name) that will likst all the programs. It is under 'applications'
