Question Wallpaper - change throughout the day

Ubuntu 12.04LTS
I have selected [System Settings] [Appearance] and set the background/wallpapers to 'changes throughout the day', which is fine - BUT I want to change some of the pictures - adding some of my own. I can manually ADD a picture but this is fixed ie will NOT change. Is there a file that can make changes to the set wallpapers??

To get an answer to about any question you really need to give some specifics.

What distro are you using? What version are you using? What is your hardware?

These are the minum things people need to know.

If you are using a Gnome based DE this should be doable quite easily.

I am using UBUNTU 12.04LTS Gnome/UNITY[3D]
I have been OK(ish) with UNITY from the outset [9.10], the wallpaper changing thru the day has been a part of this, BUT I HAVE JUST BEEN FED UP WITH THEIR CHOICE OF WALLPAPERS!!

That is all controlled by a script that you should be able to find in /usr/backgrounds. Point it a different images.

You can also edit that to change the period of time each image is used and the time it takes to change images.

If changing wallpaper automatically at said interval is all you want then I suggest you install wallch package. I use it and it's a good app, you can even add different folders to rotate pics from.

Thumbs up

Thanks

I have had a look around and two files seem to do the trick

/usr/share/backgrounds/contest/precise.xml -- this controls the 'cycling' of the wallpapers

/usr/share/gnome-background-properties/precise-wallpapers.xml -- controls the [wallpapers] output in system settings --> appearance

now to find some nicer wallpapers!
