i was hoping for an easier way, ie through synaptic as i am a newbie. I use the unofficial guide, but it is for the wrong version(adding repositories) so i am unable to play dvd`s at the moment. Many thanks, steve. |

thanks, but some probs...lol
hello,
Many thanks for that, i have loaded enough codecs etc to sink a ship, and it works...yipiee. It does sometimes play up(not enough rights) (cant read the media) but on the whole is good, and i get to learn ubuntu. People ask why you would want to watch dvd`s on a pc, and the answer is....because i can. Thanks again, steve. |
Hi unionjak. I'm glad I could help. The error you are getting sounds to me more like a permission problem then a media playback problem. If you are using Nautilus, right click on the file you are trying to play, then choose "properties >> permissions" and make sure that everybody can "execute" that file.
It's also possible to change permissions through the command line. If you are interested in knowing how the permission in Linux/Unix works, take a look in here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...81#post1878581 Regards! |
