vsftpd- start up

Hi everybody,

I have installed vsftpd on ubuntu 11.10, and rcconf for controling
startup applications, when I run rcconf as sudo, I removed vsftpd
from list, 'cos I want it to manually start.
But, vsftpd keep starting after every boot? Here is ouput from ps:
root 4989 0.0 0.0 4400 852 ? Ss Nov26 0:00 /usr/sbin/vsftpd
So I am little confused- how come that vsftpd is still starting and how to disable that?
thx!

Hi,

You can run
Code:
update-rc.d -f vsftpd remove
to delete the symlinks of vsftpd in the various runlevels, so its doesn't start automatically on boot

Regards

thx- for yours answer- but it didnt help, after restart vsftpd is still there,
I think update-rc.d, does the same thing as rcconf.

Well, if it starts on boot but not by the usual ways, it could be that it's started from /etc/rc.local
Have a look at that file and see what you get.

find it- service is started via upstart- so I need to comment out this two lines in /etc/init/vsftpd.conf
start on (filesystem
and net-device-up IFACE!=lo)
