video and sound lag....


hello,

i can run any file that has video and sound under any multimedia video player and there will always be a .5-1second lag. the video is faster than the audio. how do i make them go at a 1:1 ratio? could upgrading to 512mb help ( im rma'ing a 256mb pc 2700 and will have a total of 512)????

Well, upgrading will always help, but you can changing the "vo" device used. If you are using mplayer, then you can try:

mplayer -vo xv foo.avi

Do "mplayer -vo help" for more details.

Which graphics card are you using? If you are using an nVidia or ATI card, then try installing the official drivers. (Ubuntu has apt-gettable nvidia drivers)

I've also noticed that win32 codecs are a bit slow, and may give problems.

i normally use xine because ive had a better expirence with it but i will give mplayer a look, i have a nvidia 7700pro 64mb and 4x. i do have the offical nvidia drivers installed

now there is screen ripping and it will skipp on any video.
