USB External HDD
When the last beta release of Fiesty came out, I installed it using the Alternate cd, everything went smooth and I really enjoyed it. I didn't keep it installed long though because I wanted to wait for the final release.
Well, today I got the final release alternate and installed it. The install went fine but when I do the first boot it stops at the usb sda section as if it can't find the external usb drive. It's a western digital 250gb HDD. Nothing has changed with the system. So why isn't Fiesty final not picking up on the external hdd? Any solutions on getting it to work? Thnx. |

Yes, it stops booting when it get to the USB devices section. Using the last beta everything went fine without this problem. Thnx. |
Anybody else having this type of problem?

You may be missing a kernel module such as ehci_hcd or usb_storage. What is the external drive used for? Is it listed in /etc/fstab? If it doesn't contain a partition used as a system directory, then you could comment out the /etc/fstab entry , and boot without the drive plugged in, and hope the boot up process succeeds. Then see if modprobing a particular kernel module enables the drive to be seen. If that is the case, you could create a new initrd file containing the module so that it will be detected when you boot.

Now that you mention it, nothing is listed in fstab for the external drive. Would that mean initrd need to add it?
How would I add the usb drivers for a new initrd? Thnx. |
I still haven't gotten this fix. Does anybody know if Ubuntu have a bug report about USB devices?
If so, could you post a link? Thnx. |
