Upgrading to Edgy Eft
 

I am currently running Dapper Drake. However, once Edgy Eft is released I would like to upgrade, but I have a uestion.

When Edgy Eft becomes available, will it be automatically installed on my PC replacing Dapper Drake, or will I have to get rid of Dapper Drake and install Edgy Eft?

We all should get an Update Notification through 'Update Manager', just like we did when Dapper was released, but dont quote me!

- As I've never received such an update notification on my Ubuntu 5.10 machine, to update to Ubuntu 6.06.
1. Edit your /etc/apt/sources.list to match Edgy, not Dapper.
2. sudo apt-get dist-upgrade && apt-get update to update.

- Don't install beta software (Edgy currently is in a beta phase) on production machines, else be sure to make a backup before that.

Sorry, but I did. It said, "A newer version of ubuntu is available..." I just cant remember what I did to GET this notification!
I'm gonna' look into it and post back!

Probably, randell6564, you're right. I'd changed computers, and initialized the new one with a beta version of Dapper. The old computer was never "on" after the final Dapper had been released.
So there's probably a misconception of mine. :(

You know.,come to think of it, I seem to remember just enabling all my Repo's in my /etc/apt/sources.list and consequently recieved the notification.
I cant tell you which one was actually responsible though since I just commented-out all of them! :)

Yeah, after my first install of Kubuntu and shortly after enabling the repositories, I received an update notification. It was a notification for some programs already installed. I didn't update them because the updates didn't seem critical. However, if they are security type updates to fix some exploitable hole, then it should be noted on the updates.

Upgrading to Edgy Eft
 

I am currently running Dapper Drake. Once Edgy Eft is released as a stable version (not beta), I would like to upgrade to it. Rather then do a complete fresh install, how can I upgrade to Edgy Eft?

It has been reported.

You would change your /etc/apt/sources.list to read "edgy" wherever you have "dapper", then

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
