Upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04
Hallo everybody.
I am running Kubuntu Oneiric Ocelot (information confirmed by lsb_release -a). Instructions to upgrade to 12.04 just say "follow the procedure". I remember that once upon a time in order to upgrade there were many precautions such as disabling all the proprietary drivers (example: the Nvidia proprietary driver) and so on. Are all these precautions now superceded? |
See here for upgrade notes and instructions:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpgradeNotes https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PreciseUpgrades https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrecisePango.../UbuntuDesktop |
I had already read them.
I did not find any reference to precautions related to proprietary drivers. Once upon a time it was an issue, now I don't see this mentioned anywhere and I am assuming it is not asn issue anymore. Can Somebosy confirm? |
It may be a good idea to remove the video card driver, assuming that it is proprietary. In searching the forum, I found a reference to this post: Ubuntu 12.10 and AMD Catalyst problem . Thanks to LXer.

When I upgraded Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 (64 bit), I didn't disable any drivers prior to the upgrade. After the upgrade, I did have to reinstall the Nvidia display driver to use the full Unity desktop.
