Upgrade to karmic has killed all sound

I'm not sure which sound card I use so I guess it would be helpful if someone told me how to find out

I've upgraded to karmic from jaunty and now have no sound at all, all the sound sliders are on full but 'sound preferences' gives me a blank screen for harware to configure.

Please help!

hi..
you would like to have a look at the sound module(drivers) if they are loaded or not.
lsmod | grep 'sound'
if they arent then you would have to (compile them) and load them.

Thanks for the reply. All I get with the above command is:-

soundcore 15200 1 snd

Any ideas?
