Tried to upgrade from the net following the directions on the Kubuntu website. Downloaded fine, went to execute the actual upgrade and now I have scores of broken dependencies. libc6-686 is broken --a big one I know. How can I recover from this?

Many of the menu items are doubled.. almost like it partially upgraded. Most if not all of the 7.10 stuff is there. But some of the 8.04 stuff is there too.

Hava you tried the command-line "apt-get -f install" ? Also, try upgrading again a week or something later; the repos could really be broken (who knows?).

Tried what you suggested from root terminal. Got the same failure. It will not progress beyond libc6 being broken, if I read this correctly.

I go bitten by libc6 on one of the Alpha shipments. This was a system I had done an online upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy. Was such a pain I gave up and re-installed Gutsy over the top again - as a fresh install.
I keep /home on a separate partition so this is generally safe to do.

I have subsequently put the Beta on (separate partition), and haven't seen the same issue with libc6. But of course it *is* a beta - things can be expected to break.

Note: in my case this is Ubuntu, not Kubuntu

If you want to keep the data in your /home and it is not an own partition, maybe you should wait und upgrade a little longer; if you do a new install, I recommend a separate partition for /home, so the users' settings and data will be kept in new installs. I do that like this because my bro has good experiences with this and that's common for a good install. Just a tip.

Thanks TITiAN, I'll research the proper way to put /home on a seperate partition before I re-install.

Does anyone know when the next beta is due out. Or is the current one it until the final release in June?
