Question Updating X config?

Hello all -

I just got a new 19" monitor to replace my old 17". I plugged the new monitor in and it is presently working. But I want to use the better resolution and refresh rate of my new monitor. How do I get the xserver to recognize I have a new monitor installed? I really don't want to go in and edit the xconfig file by hand. Isn't there some auto-detect or auto configure feature/program?

Unbuntu seems to lack what I used previously in Mandrake 9.1

Thanks for the help.

you want to reconfigure the X server,
you do this with "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg"

Smile Thank you

Thank you. That is exactly what I needed. A few minutes and I had my new monitor running with higher resolution and refresh rate.
