Updates broke mySQL??

I had everything running great...Wordpress/Gallery2/TorrentFlux/phpmyadmin and then a friendly looking popup window appeared saying that there were updates I needed. Never having had problems with the Ubuntu auto updates I had it run its course.

Now when I try to login to any application that needs to query the database I just get a blank stare. No error, I just get returned back to the login prompt.

I was able to login from the command prompt, but I have no idea where to go from there.

Any ideas?

Did you try restarting mysql? I had a similar problem where mysql would no longer boot up after those updates saying that mysql.sock was missing. If you restart mysql you might get the same message, and if you do, go to /etc/mysql and rename my.cnf to something else. It was an ugly fix, but it worked with mysql just complaining about a missing config file but then it still worked great. I don't know what else to tell you=/
