Update Manager Problem

Whenever I open the update manager it says e: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run "dpkg --configure -a"to correct this problem. When I try to run this command in the terminal it says i need superuser privileges to do this. How do I login in with those privileges or how else can I resolve this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use the command sudo to execute the command as an administrator. That is, sudo dpkg --configure -a
