update manager issue
Hi All,
last week I suddenly started getting issues with Ububtu update manager, basically it tries to update but stops with an error "(Reading database ... 30%% (Reading database ... 35%% (Reading database ... 40%% (Reading database ... 45%% (Reading database ... 50%%dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting: reading files list for package 'oxygen-icon-theme': Input/output error" It stops all package updates not just the one it's trying to install. So the list is getting longer and longer. Can anyone advise. Thanks. |

Hi All,
I solved this, I had to open the stutus file ( as sudo ) from /var/lib/dpkg. Search for the package then remove the reference to it. I's a few lines long starting with the name package and ending with the maintainer. Package: oxygen-icon-theme ... ... Original-Maintainer: ........... delete all beween these. Then apt-get -f install. So 1. Open /var/lib/dpkg/status 2. comment out lines about package 3. apt-get -f install 4. start up update manager, all appears to work now. |
