Lightbulb Update from 7.10 to 8.04 with Disc instead of download.

Hi All,

I live in Sunny South Africa and we are capped on bandwidth, thus I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade from 7.10 to 8.04 with the disc I have received via mail without "losing" / "formatting" all my goodies already in 7.10?

The upgrade / update via the update manger would use up 1,7Gb of my 2Gb CAP = not good for me for the rest of the month.

I have downloaded "alternate CD" but when I run kdesu "/cdrom/cdromupgrade", I get an "Command not found!" error.

Also My Acer Laptop requires a BIOS password in order for me to change boot sequence to boot from CD and I can not find any way to change this.

If this is the wrong place to post sorry.

Thanks for help..

That should be kdesu "sh /cdrom/cdromupgrade" - and only if you are using KDE as your DE.
If you are using the default Gnome, use gksu "sh /cdrom/cdromupgrade" instead.

As an aside, I always prefer a "clean" install - but this only works (properly) if you have /home on a separate partition.
