unmounting ipod?

i'm running edubuntu (breezy)
i was trying to see if i could get my ipod (20gb) to connect to my computer, and suprisingly enough, it did.

using rythmbox 0.9.0 i can see what's on it and songs to it. i tried to unmount it by righclicking on the ipod's icon on my desktop and selecting 'unmount' but it said it couldnt and the icon disapeared off of the desktop

i tried to unmount it in file browser, and for some reason there are 2 ipods listed with my drives? when i right-click it says "mount" not "unmount." when i try to mount it, i get this error

Quote:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda1,
missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda1,
missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so

Error: could not execute pmount
any ideas?

iPod automounted, as it should.

It unmounted--that's why the icon disappeared.

It's already unmounted, so the right-click option is now "mount." You probably can't mount it manually because you're a user, not root.

Do you have G4 iPod by chance?

The G3 my wife and I have works just fine--automounting and unmounting.
However, you may want to try (just to be safe) ejecting instead of unmounting, and doing so from the command-line.
Code:
sudo eject /dev/sda1

it told me it couldnt unmount, though

and my ipod (which is a g4) is telling me "do not disconect"

i just tried ejecting and terminal said 'no such device'

but there's still the problem of my ipod saying "do not disconnect"

So it is a G4.
I've heard there have been problems with those.

They're far more active than the Ubuntu parts of the LinuxQuestions forums.
LinuxQuestions is good for general Linux stuff (which distro should I use?), but once you've settled on Ubuntu, the actual dedicated forums are better.
