Ubutu Using Linux (Debian?)

Hi my name is Harry and I recently lost my OS from Windows XP and thought I needed to install a new proggy to start up my puter. I was given a copy of Ubuntu 10.04 and was told if my computer was salvageable it would open when inserted in my drive. Wala it did? Now I need to find a tuturial on how to find the things I new how to find in XP. Is there a site or something somewhere I can find this?? I have started to understand some of it but not quite sure where to find some of the proggys and what they are in reference to the XP names.

Hello and Welcome to LinuxQuestions,

Although the differences between Windows and Linux are huge and the learning curve is pretty steep, I'm sure that if you put some time in it you'll not regret starting with Linux for a minute. Here are some links to get you started:
Ubuntu Guide
A downloadable version
and some more general information about differences between Windows and Linux:
Linux is not Windows
Linux FAQ for newbies

Have fun with Linux. Looking forward to your participation.

Kind regards,

Eric

You will also learn a lot just setting up your install. Some guidance is nice. Try this;
http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Natty

I don't know what version you got but the links to all the currently active versions of Ubuntu are right there on that page. It will be a big help.

The links given by EricTRA are VERY good. Be sure to read the "Linux is not Windows" one. It will set you in the right frame of mind.

EDIT
Sorry, need to learn to read. Try this one;

There are a great many sites around the net that have tutorials for Ubuntu. Besides the links that have been given, here are 2 great sites for getting started with Ubuntu:
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/index
And if you wish to dual boot with Windows on the same computer: http://members.iinet.net/~herman546/index.html
Although those sites may refer to the newer versions of Ubuntu (10.10 and 11.04), they are still relevant for 10.04.
Write back if you need more help.
And welcome to the LQ forums!

I have been trying for a week on how to install the drivers for a Canon Pixma MP250 Printer! So far all I get is addresses to click on and they take me to download sites that do not offer the correct Drivers or they do not exist. Could someone please give the correct addresses?? I have posted before on this and do not want to upset anyone but am getting frustrated. Please help a new Linux user!!
Thank You,
Harry

Please don't hijack other threads. Your issue has nothing to do with the topic of this thread. If you have an issue open a new thread for it. This way (when using a descriptive title) your issue will get the maximum attention.
