A bit more info would help here.
What wireless card does your laptop have? If you do not know, post the output of
lspci from the terminal. The wired ethernet and wireless interfaces should be near the end of the output.
Are the proper drivers loaded for your wireless device? If you do not know, post the output of
lsmod in the terminal. Also post the output of:
and
from the terminal.
Assuming that Ubuntu recognizes your wireless device and has the proper drivers loaded and your wireless device is running ok, I would recommend using
wicd instead of the
network-manager that is standard on Ubuntu.
To install wicd, first remove network-manager, thn install wicd:
Code:
sudo apt-get remove --purge network-manager network-manager-gnome
sudo apt-get install wicd
Then use wicd to configure your wireless.
Also, how is your wireless access point configured? Do you use encryption? If so, what type? Is it WEP? WPA? Post back with your wireless info.
And welcome to the LQ forums!
