I have just installed ubuntu server 9.10 with the DNS server software installed but when it reboots the computer and starts loading up for the first time it asks for (name of pc)login: and then password: so i typed in the username n password that i created during the installtion but it comes up with incorrect login details

Does any one have any input would be most helpful

user root

i also have this same problem after a fresh install of server 9.10

i am a former ubuntu user must say its been awhile but i decided to come back and i know the root account is disabled by default and hte user i created is auto added to admin/root access.

however, my user is not working with the credentials i created

i reformatted twice same problem

any ideas? im about to just go with debian

also wanted to include that keyboard layout seems fine

-------------

i dont know what the issue was but i did it a 3rd time with a different name and passwd and it worked

no - i didn't typo the first two times, I typed them in slow and it makes u verify so that wasn't it.

I am not sure what the problem was but i'm good to go

pls disregard

Launch recovery mode from grub, login as root and type passwd *username* if you want to change the root passwd just type passwd. On systems which ask for the original password before getting you into the recovery console adding 'init=/bin/bash' will prevent that... I can't believe you reformatted to reset a password, there's thousands of easier options, there's even software to crack the password for you which would of been easier, anyway yeah - passwd.
