Ubuntu Server 7.04 on Sun Enterprise 450

Hey, all,

Got a problem that has me scratching my head. I'm a relative n00b, so bear with me on this one...

Hardware:
Sun Enterprise 450 (quad 450MHz SPARC)
4 GB RAM
8x36GB SCSI-2 hard drives
Sun Type 6 keyboard

I've been trying to get Ubuntu Server 7.04 installed onto this machine with no success. Here's what happens...

When asked to select the keyboard, I choose either a Sun Type 4 or 5 (since 6 is not an option). The installation continues all the way through to the end, but the keyboard mapping is mangled something awful. Nothing types right, so entering a root password is a futile effort.

If I choose the Generic 101-key, I'm able to type everything just fine, BUT it won't detect the CD-ROM. Ever. At all. Suckage.

Anyone encounter this one before? Anyone get around this one before?

Thanks!

Me.

But it detects the CD-ROM if you don't pick up the generic 101-key? That, if something, sounds weird. I thought keyboards and CD-ROMs didn't have much in common..

And what if you pick up something else "generic", 105-key or something close?

That's friggin' weird. The generic 105-key ended up not being a good solution, as it asks you to type in some Greek keys. However, the generic 104-key appears to work so far during the install. If another thing craps out, I'll be back here.

Thanks, b0uncer!
