Unhappy Ubuntu monitor settings and application packages not available

I was really happy with the ease of installing Ubuntu onto my desktop.

Unfortunately, I can find no way to adjust my monitor settings to anything above 800 x 600.

And, the package manager is very limited and does not allow me to search for any packages outside of the limited built in listing.

What can I do?

Thanks

You make the listing longer if you like by also importing midibuntu
Midibuntu has his own web side

Thank you for the information. I will try that in a little while.
