Ubuntu,kismet, orinoco patching story.
i have been searching and following tutorials and step by steps for the last two days on how to get Kismet to work on my computer.
I just installed Ubuntu 5.10 breezy and it is great, got everything i need and more.
now i want to get kismet to work on it.
I have a Orincoc Gold card, it works great, i get on the net no problems at all.
I understand from my readings I have to patch the drive for it so kismet can put it into monitor mode.
I installed kismet and when i run the command kismet from the command line I get the following error:
root@nix:~# kismet
Server options: none
Client options: none
Starting server...
Waiting for server to start before starting UI...
Will drop privs to myuser (1000) gid 1000
No specific sources given to be enabled, all will be enabled.

Source 0 (orinwlan): Enabling monitor mode for orinoco source interface eth1 channel 6...
FATAL: Could not find 'monitor' private ioctl or use the newer style 'mode monitor' command. This typically means that the drivers have not been patched or the correct drivers are being loaded. See the troubleshooting section of the README for more information.
so I know i need to apply the patch for the card from what i have been reading. I downloaded the patch from severaldifferent sites and attempted to install and I get the following error:
"make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.12-10-386/build: No such file or directory. Stop."
from what i can tell i need the kernel hearders dowloaded or something?? this is where im getting confused.
mykernel is 2.6.12-10-386
any help would be great!!!!
PS- i have been searching and looking around on the net and trying everything I can find before I posted.
