Ubuntu (KDE) running slow, & how do I uninstall GNOME?
for some reason my ubuntu (kde) distro is running very very slow... often if im running azureus it will crash, normal tasks like opening firefox will take more than 10 seconds and if i have multiple windows open, it will act slower than windows, here are my computer specs, im running the x86_64 version.
I've never gotten KDE to run at anything more than a snails pace, on any distro. Gnome, I've never had an issue w/. I know KDE is slightly more resource heavy, but I don't understand why I've had such issues with it.

hmm... your load average is low, your cpu use is low. maybe you just don't have graphics acceleration working? Do you have a graphics accelerator (like an nvidia card or something)? Have you installed the drivers & updated xorg?
beyond that, it's hard to say.. maybe your hard drive is on its way out?
i have a 8600gts evga, i dont know how to get the graphics acceleration working, how do i install the drivers and update xorg? any help would be appreciated.

unfortunately, it's non-trivial. That said, there are some pretty good, step-by-step docs. Just be sure to follow them to the T.
If kde is so resource heavy then why does gnome run slower then it on my pIII?
I didn't say my opinion was right/wrong, but I've tried KDE on several computers, all but 1 w/ reasonable speed, and they all sucked compared to Gnome.
Use whatever you like, you'll get no argument from me, the beauty of choice....
You may need to check to see if your video accelerator drivers are installed, up to date, or even on. I use Gnome with absolutely no speed difficulties. Works as fast as my MS Vista at work.
