That's why there's backports. Libreoffice 5.1.1.3, chromium 49, etc. Newer, more up to date software on the stable Debian base.

I've never found a reason to switch to Ubuntu. IMO, Debian proper is just more pleasant to deal with.

While some things like that are updated in Debian, I like to play with quasi-recent kernels and desktop environments that are well integrated into the system. I'll admit I'm impatient, which is probably why I use Tumbleweed most of the time.

Eh, kernel 4.3 is recent enough for me, which is what's in backports.

It's just a matter of preference I suppose, which is what Linux is all about.
