Ubuntu in VMware

I just got new Ubuntu5.1. And I successfully installed the new
one in my PC under a VMware virtual environment. To get a better performance I tried to install Vmware tools in Ubuntu5.1. But a error of execution program is out of the XFree86 session. Then the installation was finished with a error.

Is there anyone have experiences of installing VMWARE tools on a virtual Ubuntu?

What version of VMware are you using? I've had problems with the VMware-tools from VMware 4. I think they were built before the mass exodus from XFree86 to X.org, so they don't seem to work correctly with current distributions. However, I've found that the VMware-tools from VMware 5.5 work perfectly. If you're using 4.x, then you could simply download the trial version of 5.5 and grab the files for vmware-tools from that.
