Ubuntu freezing

My ubuntu setup constantly freezes, I rarely get it to last 15 minutes without freezing up. The specs are as follows.

p4 2gz
512mb of ram
400gb HD
Haughpaugh pvr 150
Geforce fx 5200

I've ruled out bad RAM and my cpu. Could it be my video card?

Also, the main purpose of this PC will be to use Mythtv, but sadly I can't even watch live tv without it freezing up. I can't help but feel that maybe the video card is to blame. would it be possible to run mythtv without having a dedicated card?

Since you are implying that you have on-board video as well, you should make sure that it is disabled if you are going to use an add-on video card. If that doesn't make a difference, remove the video card and see whether you have more luck with just onboard video.
