Ubuntu freezes at login screen after Wubi installation

Hi guys,

I wanted to try out Ubuntu and I used the Wubi installer (the most current version, 12.04 LTS) to install Ubuntu. Everything goes well and fine, until after the restart, Ubuntu freezes at the login page. The screen, the mouse, and the keyboard freezes, and I don't get a chance to type my password in. After a few seconds, the screen distorts and nothing happens until I manually shut my computer off. No matter how many times I boot into Ubuntu, the same thing occurs.

My computer specs:

MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
AMD Sempron Processor LE-1300
3 GB RAM
256 GB HDD
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

Thanks!

Hello.

If you have not do some data backups first...

If you can burn an ISO (grate to have for rapers as well as testing plus installer) try that instead or I would try the installers again with a fresh download I'd also be trying the 64-bit one looks like 13.10 you do have 64-bit hardware and I don't think you must have microcoughed 8? You do have GRUB when you boot then right?

Hi, I tried the installer again, and this time from http://download.cnet.com/Wubi/3000-2094_4-10701841.html. It worked, and I got to the login screen, however I am unable to login, as it says my username or password is incorrect. I can only get to the desktop as a guest user. I also encountered another error with this installer: prior to the login screen, I get an error message saying, "mount: can't read proc/mounts".

You normally never want to DL from anywhere but "trusted" makers but since it's "reputable" I'd think your ok... I assume you set up a new user and root password on install (I never tried that Installer and haven't used winblow$ for years) but in Ubuntu's settings you should be able to make a new user or mod yours. If you never set a root try in a konsole or terminal from your apps menus:
Code:
sudo passwd
also have looks at: http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/howto-l...duser-command/
https://www.digitalocean.com/communi...4-and-centos-6

One of many good reasons to always have live medium around is to fix things like this;
if you can't remember or set root try: http://linuxgazette.net/107/tomar.html
http://askubuntu.com/questions/24006...ative-password

Check the first link in my signature for #'s 2 & 3 as well good luck and have fun.

As long as you have the root password you can do anything from a guest account.

You should of been asked to enter a username and password. By default the root account is locked i.e. there isn't a root password. root privileges is granted by using sudo with your username password.
