Hi everyone.
I have been trying to install the drivers for my Radeon 9550 on Ubuntu 6.10. Following the instructions on the ATI website does not work, if I run fglrxinfo I get:
Code:
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.5.1)
Examining the Xorg config has these in it for DRI:
Code:
Section "DRI"
Mode 0666
EndSection
and:
Code:
Section "Module"
Load "bitmap"
Load "ddc"
Load "dri"
Load "extmod"
Load "freetype"
Load "glx"
Load "int10"
Load "type1"
Load "vbe"
EndSection
Running "sudo modprobe fglrx", and "sudo modprobe -v fglrx" dont return anything...there is absolutely no output from them at all.
While trawling my xorg.conf file I found this:
Code:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Radeon 9550"
Driver "ati"
Option "UseFBDev" "true"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection
Section "Device"
Identifier "aticonfig-Device[0]"
Driver "fglrx"
EndSection
I assumed that the existence of two "Device" sections would cause problems for X in determining which to use, so I commented out the first "Device" and rebooted. Went to a console login screen, so I tried logging in and running "startx", only to be told that it couldn't start. Can't remember the exact error now, but it was similar to the first error posted here. Editing X's config file and uncommenting the "Device" section "fixed" this, I can start X and use it quite happily...but am back to square 1 with no acceleration.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Chris
