Ubuntu AMD 64 woes

Hi

I've recently installed the 6.10 version of Ubuntu on my PC. So far I have experienced regular freezes while browsing the internet, listening to music and watching videos or pretty much anything else.

I have heard that the AMD 64 version of Ubuntu isn't quite there yet.

My question is: will I be able to install the 32-bit version of Ubuntu on an AMD 64 machine without any trouble? Will it work?

Thanks

NoobDave

install 32-bit ubuntu if u want better multimedia support(i mean win32codecs),flash,Java etc although it can be achieved in ubuntu-64 bit.

Regarding freezes, consider checking ur RAM available, also check for X.org supporting ur video card...

32 bit Ubuntu runs just fine without any problems on a 64 bit AMD machine. That's what I'm doing and recommend it to others.

Thanks

I've done that and it seems to work fine.

Weird thing was with Firefox, it still crashes but Opera works a treat.

Cheers

I have an occasional Firefox crash as well. Linux is so good about not going down with it and Firefox 2 has improved recovery. I'm using about 10 extensions and have a number of plugins including a beta of Flash 9. It doesn't really get in the way of using my system.
