ubuntu 8.04 for amd 64

If I install Ubuntu 8.04 for amd 64 is there less software
available or is it better to install a normal distibution.
Are there check sums available for 8.04.

Thanks in advance.

That shouldn't make much of a difference nowadays. Things that used to be problematic (flash plug-in, adobe reader, etc.) are now included in both 32 and 64 bit. I have just finished installing amd64 and noticed that there were about 25000 packages. You will probably want to install Medibuntu separately (just use google to learn more).

Yes, the md5sum checksum should be available from the server where you get your iso.

I did an upgrade on amd 64 bit from 7.10 to 8.04 with no problems. I'm using the Ubuntu as both a workstation and an SMB PDC on my home network. The upgrade was one of the smoothest proceedures I have ever done!
