A friend gave me a free cd (my weakness) with Ubuntu 6.06. I tried it out and wireless was working fine--even on the live CD. I have an Atheros AR5001X / ar5211 chipset. It also worked fine after the install. Then I upgraded to 6.10 and it didn't work at all.

I did some searching and tried some stuff out, but couldn't get anything working as it's supposed to be.

I can use 6.10 if I boot into the kernel from 6.06. Then, I have to iwconfig atho essid/key myself (even though they're already configured) and then get an ip via dhcp (it doesn't seem to do it).

Can anyone tell me how to fix it? I haven't been able to find any answers online or on IRC.

P.S. I'm quad booting and all other OS are accessing wireless without issue.

You have to enable the Universal and Restricted repositories in Synaptic and install the madifi packages, which don't 100% comply with the GPL license (hence they aren't "official").

As an additional recommendation to JaseP's post, I'd suggest you install network-manager-gnome package since it bring easy WAP out-of-the-box functionality.
