Ubuntu 12.04 stopped connecting to the Internet

Three days ago, my Ubuntu 12.04 operating system stopped being able to connect to the Internet. Neither Firefox or Evolution Mail will connect. Firefox says the web-address is not available. Evolution Mail says the system is down. When I boot up, a message box comes up which says the Internet in disconnected. I have tried changing the connection to no proxy. The connection is currently system proxy. Any advice would be appreciated.

I did not do anything, but Ubuntu 12.04 is now connecting to the Internet.

I upgraded Ubuntu 12.04 two days ago, and, once again, Ubuntu will not connect to the Internet. Same symptoms.

I was able to get my internet connection back by editing the file

sudo gedit /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf.dpkg-new

and changing

dns=dnsmasq

to

dns=dnsmasq-base .

It took several hours using my iPad to search for solutions to finally find this one. Seems to be working fine now.
