Wine is one of those programs that needs to have a 32 bit part, because many Windows programs (like for example Steam) are still 32 bit. In a pure 64 bit environment they won't run.
That it still doesn't run is kind of weird, but sadly i can't really help with that. I fiddled with Wine for about half a year with various games and came to the conclusion that it is much easier to simply dualboot with Windows to run games. I hope this changes at least for games available on Steam when the native Steam client is released (according to Valve sometime this year).

If a guru can't help you, you know you're screwed.

I won't dual boot with Windows just for Steam so I'll wait for the Linux client. The world needs more Linux.
