I am new to the forums and ubuntu. I love it; and I have been reading everything I can find regarding this error; "passwd: Authentication token manipulation error”: passwd: password unchanged" I have tried using: "sudo apt-get remove likewise-open" but it is unable to access. says I am not the owner of that file (I am on my admin acct).
I am not sure what else to try. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What is the actual problem you are having? If it is about changing your password, then why are you telling us about trying uninstall a program? I am just trying to follow what you said.... But as far as the actual error you are getting, this topic has been covered mutiple times on these forums. See the following links: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-error-236955/ http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...on-error-2813/
This is why I tried that approach: "Basically, if you run passwd and receive the error,”passwd: Authentication token manipulation error”, the culprit is likely Likewise Open. Unfortunately, even having this installed — but not configured — will prevent you from using passwd to update a local users’s password. Fortunately, the fix is very easy if you don’t actually use Likewise Open – just remove it from your system with this command: sudo apt-get remove likewise-open. Confirm the prompts and after apt-get is done, you should be able to use passwd like normal."
Pretty sure I already read those to no avail---however, in-case I am confusing them with other things I am going to read them now.
