Ubuntu 11.10 install frozen on keyboard?

I have an Asus Eee PC 901, and when installing Ubuntu 11.10 Alpha 3 onto a USB stick using it, I selected the keyboard, and it just froze. The install went on, get I cannot go forward to set up accounts or anything. Also, the watch indicator has come up. Has anyone else experienced this?

Alpha 3, not that suprising.

If you want to be 'cutting edge' you'd be better off with a rolling release distro rather than testing releases for the next ubuntu.

I was going to try Ubuntu 11.10 as eventually it will be the distro on my netbook when it is released, so I wanted to keep up with developments. Eventually I gave up and installed 11.04.

'Keeping up with developments' is in part what I meant by 'cutting edge'. ;)

I might try again when Beta 1 comes out soon, then I won't have about 600 MB of updates :D

You could use the daily build to install without all the updates too. B1 is really just a snapshot of where the OS is on that day. Just like the dailies. There is a "freeze" for the step releases but that is mainly for ISO testing to make sure that they are more reliable than the regular dailies on a wider variety of hardware.

This is a link that anyone interested in Ubuntu should have;
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/

Note in particular the "daily-live", "daily" (more reliable alt install disks) and the "releases" links.

beta1 is listed under that last link right now.

So /releases/oneiric/beta1 should be more stable than the alphas?

No. It is just another daily build with an added title. The RC should be pretty stable when it comes around but there is usually a lot of tweaks in it too.

This is all "testing". One reason for calling it beta is that it pulls in more users. The purpose of testing is to collect bugs so that they can be fixed before the release. You need a diversity of hardware to do this.

Give it a whack. Do not install it as a production OS. If you have 15 Gb to spare it is more than enough room to test it.

Well, I decided to install the first Beta onto a 8GB USB stick so I can test it on my netbook, and my desktops. So far it runs fine, except for the Dash being too large for my 9" monitor.
