Ubuntu's 'Enviroment Vareables'


Through my use of Ubuntu (K) I have started to notice little commands that arnt part of bash or sh or in the PATH. EX:cc. What environment variable (I think that's what there called) is this stuff under?

cc should be a symlink in your /bin or /usr/bin and point to your compiler, most likely gcc. This is common on Linux and not related to Ubuntu.

you may always try to ask 'which cc'

this reports where in the path is the command sitting.
