Transferring audio cassettes to computer

I have 7.10 Gutsy gibbon installed and as I own a number of audio cassettes i wondered whether there is a suitable package to transfer them to the computer and then on to CD?

pls check out these

as you can see from the last link, you will need a jack to go from your tape (headphone or 3.5) to the line in of your soundcard 3.5mm.

various electronic stores sell adaptors to take headphone to 3.5

k3b is the easiest burner.

but the top post is mentions formats.....hi quality in allows hi quality out....but you are limited by your soundcard and the quality of your tapes.

you might need the top link to filter.

Thank you all very much for your helpful comments. My son supplied me with the jack, being very much an amateur I found the "Sound Recorder" software the easiest to use, saving the tapes in ogg format, then the "Sound Converter" converted those I wanted to mp3 format. I am now feeling ambitious and hoping to convert my husband's old '78s' (does this give our age away?, if we can find the old turntable he has put away in the loft. Thank you, Mary

The "old turntable" may be a problem if it does not have a built-in pre-amp. I can appreciate the 78rpm format - being of that era. If you find the t/t, just hook it up. If no signals come through, it may be necessary to run the t/t output through a stereo system first.

There may be some Google references to specific steps to take.
