Totem playing off of network, Xine playing local

I'm trying to use Xine UI for everything since Totem seems to have a tendency to lock up completely while playing files off of the network. Ironicly, I can get Xine UI to play local files but not network files, it seems only Totem (the one locking up of course) wants to play the files from the network.

This is not specificly an Ubuntu problem since I had the same symptoms on Slackware 10.1 but I really wanna get this taken care of.

It's quite a pain to copy a 200MB file across the network everytime I want to watch an episode since my file storage is not only Linux box.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the networked computer I'm playing the files off of is running WinXP and is linked up through Samba.
