Unhappy System Fonts permissions corruption

I appear to have corrupted the file permissions for the system fonts:

alan@alan-desktop:~$ ls -l /usr/share/fonts/
ls: cannot access /usr/share/fonts/X11: Permission denied
ls: cannot access /usr/share/fonts/type1: Permission denied
ls: cannot access /usr/share/fonts/truetype: Permission denied
total 0
d????????? ? ? ? ? ? truetype
d????????? ? ? ? ? ? type1
d????????? ? ? ? ? ? X11
alan@alan-desktop:~$

I was trying to use chmod to change permissions to add a new font!

I am now informed that there is a font management function for private fonts.

I am using Ubuntu Hardy Heron.

Is there a way to re-establish the corrupted permissions?

Hello Barzo

Glad you solved the problem.

Now you solved the problem, please describe how you fixed it (for the benefit of anyone else having the same problem) and change the title, prefixing it with [SOLVED] (to save people wasting their time opening this thread to see if they can help you).

Best

Charles
