syslog.conf question

I'm having some issues with cyrus pegging my processor every so often. I'm trying to gather any information as I can. The old sysadmin has left and I'm left to pick up the peices..

I want to get cyrus 2.2 imap to give me anylog files I can muster.. I do not have a /etc/syslog.conf config file.. Does this need to be manually created? Or is there a different way?

I need to add a line like this
local6.info /var/log/imapd.log

u guys are awesome
thanks

what syslog service are you using? non-standard syslog daemons like the excellent syslog-ng use their own config files and formats. generally though this doesn't really make sense. if you're sending the request out to syslog in the first place it'll still be logged somewhere, it won't just be pissed on the floor check /var/log/messages for the data.

Thanks for the reply, I have checked those areas and there is no log of imap..

I did just find that ubuntu 9.10 has replaced sysklogd with rsyslog and the config file resides in /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default

I've made my changes and will need to wait and hope the errors present themselves..
