Suspend doesn't work on Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy) on DELL Inspiron 1150
Hello all,
I just upgraded to Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy from Feisty. Suspend was working fine on Feisty (don't remember if it worked out of the box or not).
Now, suspend and hibernate don't work at all. This post is about getting suspend to work. My system details are below. Please let me know if I omitted anything important.
DELL Inspiron 1150
Linux Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy)
I've included the output of "lshw" at the end of this post in case it's useful.
Can anyone help - even if it's pointing me to some HOWTO or web page. I tried googling but didn't find any solutions (saw several posts describing similar problems however).
My Inspiron 1420n doesn't have any problems with suspend and hibernate since 8.04. By not
work at all, do you mean unresponsive black screen or something like WiFi won't connect?
The Broadcom WiFi isn't as Linux friendly as the Intel I have. Broadcom could be playing a role
in this. Try searching the forums for "broadcom hibernate". Check out http://ubuntuforums.org.
Hibernate requires a swap partition the size of memory or larger -- you should check that.

More details on suspend problems...
Hi,
I mean the system won't come out of suspend... it just hangs with a black screen but the fan is running. I have to power down using the power button and then restart from power off state.
Yesterday I downloaded the latest packages available via live update. Now, suspend "seems" to suspend. However, when the system comes back out of suspend, there is no mouse pointer. I can only move the mouse around the screen until I see that the "power" icon is highlighted. I can then click it to shut down the system.
i have a simmilar issue on an Acer Aspire 5315 laptop, you click suspend and it drops back to a command line with the GUI still running on alt+F7, which asks for your password,
it used to work until i re-installed, you can restore into a session but you can't run an application or shut it down properly, the laptop never actually changes into a suspend state either.
