Streaming video from Windows XP doesn't work in Ubuntu 6.06.

Hello. I just installed Ubuntu 6.06 on my laptop and it runs GREAT! However I am having ONE problem. I Have a machine with Windows XP Pro and I can access the folders on my network from Ubuntu, however, when i try to play video from the XP machine on Ubuntu, it doesnt play. I know i have the codecs installed right because I copied the video over to the Ubuntu machine and it plays just fine. Is there a way i can fix this?

Any help is appreciated. If more details are needed, just tell me.

Thanks in advance!

To get this working, I always have to mount the dir so that linux "thinks" that is an local file!

smbmount or mount -t smbfs or mount -t cifs -depending on your distro, cant remember what i used on 6.06

ok i googled the clues you gave me and did the "mount -t smbfs" like this (filling in the appropriate information of course):

sudo mount -t smbfs -o username=[ubuntu username],password=[root password] //[xp machine IP]/[sharename] /[destination]/[destination]

and got this:

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on //[xp machine ip]/[sharename],
missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so

did i do something wrong? i might have misunderstood what i was supposed to type.

thanks in advance.

you need to put in your windows user & pass, think of it as logging in to the share
