Strange X errors when running any app with a GUI

Hi. I remember this happening to me when I used Ubuntu (now I use Kubuntu), and I remember fixing it, but can't remember how:

bruno321@bruno321:~$ firefox
X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 169
Major opcode: 147
Minor opcode: 3
Resource id: 0x0
Failed to open device
X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 169
Major opcode: 147
Minor opcode: 3
Resource id: 0x0
Failed to open device

But then the app runs fine. I don't mind it very much, but it's kind of annoying to have those errors pop up whenever I run something from the konsole.

Thanks.

I feel your pain exactly. (See error message below)

Quote:

A Google search blamed this problem on "wacom" settings in xorg.conf. I commented them out in my /etc/X11/xorg and no luck. In fact, X won't start at all.

I'm certain there is some way to determine what "device 169" is -- I wish I knew what that method was. Do you happen to know?

I highly suspect my scanner or my video card. My video card supports dual monitors, but I can only get one to operate right now. Perhaps the second monitor is detected, but inoperable and that is causing the error message?

Any progress on your side?

Equipment:
AMX 64 3500
MSI board
Kubuntu Edgy (According to Google, this problem existed with Dapper Drake as well.)
500 Meg Ram

No, I haven't made any progress unfortunately. Since it doesn't really bother me I haven't looked more into it, but I've done another fresh Kubuntu 6.10 installation on an Acer Travelmate 290 which happens to do the very same thing. I did the Kubuntu installation on that notebook without any external devices connected, so I highly doubt it is your scanner. It is an X error which I didn't have on my Fedora Core 6 installation, I suspect the automatic configuration of the X.Org server of (K)Ubuntu (it happened to me too with a Ubuntu install I had some weeks ago).

I have no idea how to look which is the 169 device.

If you happen to solve it, please, do tell

Sorry the message has gone away, and I have no true idea why. I believe that the message disappeared as I was fixing a "no windows decoration" problem. During this process several different warnings that came and went without my investigating them.

However, Beryl is running much better now that I've added the following to the "Screens" section of /etc/X11/xorg. Perhaps it caused the warning to disappear too.
