strange troubles with openoffice after upgarding to karmic: no text in UI...

I just upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 then discovered that, in openoffice.org-writer, the text in the UI is gone. It's strange because the text to be edited is still there. So maybe it's a font or rendering problem but I suspect something related to the window manager is going wrong. Has anybody had the same kind of bug? I have checked and re-installed openoffice but I haven't been able to fix this so far. So if somebody has a clue, it will be more than welcome. Thanks in advance.

I finally fixed it after more google searchs, by editing xorg.conf and adding the line:
Option "RenderAccel" "false"
in the device section. The chip is an ATI Radeon Mobility. I think the trouble was xorg.conf being updated during upgrade.
