Splashscreen on Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex
Hi,
I have just installed Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex on my computer which dual boots with Windows. The DVD installer was supplied with Linux magazine. During the installation process I was given no option to set up and configure Grub like I have been with other distros. When the installation was complete, I was left with a very unattractive black and white bootloader with no splash screen. BY default, does Ubuntu install Grub, or do they use some kind of custom Ubuntu Bootloader? How can I fix this? I have always used Suse in the past, which has an attractive boot screen and I'm not keen on what I have at the moment. Can anyone give any suggestions about what has happened here? Thanks, Tim |
just as an update, I do see that there is a Grub folder installed in /boot, but there is no grub.conf inside this folder.

Haven't installed Ubuntu for a while so I'm not sure if there is an option with the bootloader install. Usually, it's default to install to mbr and sometimes you need to check and advanced tab to get to the choice. Is there a menu.lst file in /boot/grub ?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I've just this minute solved the problem. I've just apt installed the KDE environment, which has a a menu option: applications - system settings - advanced - edit grub settings. Grub was indeed installed, but with no Grub image selected. This is really a great feature of the new version of KDE : I was able to search online for a grub screen image of my choice, preview it and auto install it. Thanks again for the reply, Tim |
