Speakers not working
 

I have recently downloaded/burnt/installed Ubuntu, 5.04. And I remember doing something where I clicked No, for if I had speakers, because at the time, I didn't. And now that I do, no sounds play, except for the system beep, and I wouldn't call that a sound exactly. But I was wondering if there was any way that I could change it so that the speakers play, and I don't remember where I said I didn't have them. I know that sound plays, cause I look at the volume meter when a CD is going, and it shows that it's doing something.. Just hope I can get them working. Thanks.

try sndconfig?

I'm new, so could you explain that..

im not sure what the sound card conf program would be.

try typing sndconfig in a shell prompt. and then just run thew the config program. it should do most of it automatically.

also, make sure your sound volumes are turned up.


type aumix in a shell as well.

Install alsa


apt-cache search alsa

and install all the alsa related stuff.

lspci to find out your chipset.

As far as the ALSA stuff goes, I've installed a couple things, wasn't exactly sure which to do, but some said it was already up to date. Still no sound.

When I type lspci I get:
